Time Off to Vote in PUBLIC Elections

This message concerns paid time off to vote in Public Elections ( Federal, State, County, Municipal – NOT PCTEA UNION ELECTIONS).

Previously New York State law had a section allowing employees 3 hours of paid time off to vote in official elections.  This was amended in 2020.  Now the law allows for up to 2 hours off to vote, but ONLY applies to those employees who do not have 4 consecutive hours to vote during the time frame the polls are open.  In Erie County polling places are open from 6am until 9pm.  Therefore employees would only recieve paid time off to go vote if their shift begins before 10AM AND ends after 5pm.  This likely does not apply to any PCTEA members due to our hours of work.  Please see the link below:
